Step Up to a Higher Level
A managing director unexpectedly dropped his fountain pen, interrupting his fidgeting. It was at that moment that he realised he had been blankly staring out the window for a good fifteen minutes. He quickly shrugged his shoulders and dismissed the bizarre incident as a one-off moment of tiredness.
However, it was not until he was stuck in the home-bound traffic jam, that he once again caught himself fidgeting and staring into thin air. As far back as he can remember he had never fidgeted or felt bored.
From an early age he learned to make full use of his time constructively, utilising his skills and capabilities. So what has suddenly triggered these feelings of boredom? He had no acceptable or sound explanation.
Wasting no time, that same night he searched and profiled an executive coach and sent an enquiring email. A few days later he was professionally airing his concerns to one of our coaches.
The coach re-visited certain skills that had been dormant for years. The daily routine of the current job had eventually pushed aside any other skills that were not relevant to his present role; to the point that he consciously forgot he even had them. And so boredom was born.
With the expert guidance of our coach this man has learned to get in touch with, and bring back to life his hibernating skills and capabilities to help him step up and achieve more; killing boredom in the process.
If you are to step up to achieve more, what inactive skill, or skills would you call upon?
