Increase Your Self Confidence

One very effective way for you to increase your self confidence is to first identify what is holding you back. Is it fear of failure, fear of rejection?

The second step is for you find ways to physically feel that fear, even in small ways. Go through the motions; the nervousness, the shaky hands, the thousands of butterflies flying around in your stomach. Get uncomfortable!

One of my clients wanted to set up a business selling conference space. He had extensive hotel conference and banqueting experience behind him, yet when it came for him to venture out alone, many fears and anxieties had surfaced.

My suggestion was for him to tackle one fear one step at a time, no matter how big or small it may seem at the time. And to work on it until that fear had become either a thing of the past or it had been reduced to a point where it is virtually insignificant.

For him to increase his confidence he had to take risks. He had to experience the blocks, the fears one by one. This way he would gain more skill, knowledge and develop his strengths and, more importantly, increase his self confidence.

You can increase your self confidence by focusing on what you fear, and then overcome that fear. Have belief that you can succeed and push ahead. The fears that crop up along the way are fabulous opportunities to gain more strength and increase your confidence level.

If you want to start up a business, as in the example above, but are scared to do so, identify what fears are standing in your way and tackle them one by one. Remember to praise yourself along the way for having the courage to face those fears and anxieties, and reward yourself for every increment, for every increase to your self confidence.
