Bored? Can’t Motivate Yourself?

Do you find that when you are bored you lose motivation? You feel that you cannot concentrate on the task at hand, and your mind wanders.

If you continue with the thought that you are bored, you will become even more bored. What you focus on expands.

Instead, why not sit back and look at what you are working on. Is that task important to you? Is it a project or assignment that your manager wants done?

If it is valuable task and should get done, do yourself a favour and walk away from it!

Be daring and find a boardroom where you can be by yourself. Alone and undisturbed. Sit down, close your eyes and do nothing. Nothing. Take a ten minute break to clear and refresh your mind.

This short relaxation period will rejuvenate your mind and body. You will feel fresh and ready to refocus on that same task that you were bored with. Only now you will feel revived and revitalised.

I challenged one of my clients to take a ten minute relaxation break at work for the next five days.

On the Thursday of that week, she achieved more in less time. She found that she worked smarter, not harder. And what’s more, she realised that it was not boredom that stole her motivation.

She simply felt worn-out and exhausted.

The next time you are bored take a ten minute relaxation break!
